World War II started on September 1, 1939
Japan needed rubber, oil and access to the Pacific Ocean. They wanted the base on the island of Oahu, Hawaii.
Japan sent 353 planes, several submarines and dive bombers on December 7, 1941 at 7:48 a.m.
More than 2,400 Americans died and 1,100 were injured.
President Franklin D. Roosevelt gave an address stating the attack on Pearl Harbor was a "Day that would live in infamy." The United Stated entered World War II on December 8, 1941.
