2. Beyond Expectations

Reflection/ Constructed Responses

1. You've had a hard day.  As you sit on your bed, reflecting about all the things you need to do now, a package arrives at your bedroom door.  Inside, you find a Phantom Tollbooth of your own. Write a narrative describing where the tollbooth would lead YOU and what unusual characters you might encounter.  Write as a narrative story.

2. You've just met the Whether Man.  Write the dialogue between you and this character, as he would behave based on text evidence.  Think about how his sentences are structured.  How would he respond to the things you might say to him.

3. "Expectations is the place you must always go to before you get to where you're going." (19)   Explain your own expectations about middle school.  What do you think it will be like when you move away from elementary school and become an independent middle schooler?

4. Explain the Doldrums. What does the voice say happens in the Doldrums?  Describe a time when you have found yourself in the doldrums.
