The reason behind it.

Located in Savannah GA, Joanne Pike the new CEO will advance global efforts to improve the lives of people affected by Alzheimers. Jerome H. Stone founded the association and the reason behind it was that his wife was diagnosed with Alzheimers in 1970. There wasn't a lot of information on it so Jerome started to study it. Mr. Stone took a disease that was cloaked in silence and helped to create a global conversation.

What is alzheimer's Alzheimer's is a type of dementia that affects memory, thinking and behavior. Symptoms eventually grow severe enough to interfere with daily tasks. Alzheimer is the most common cause of dementia meaning memory loss. Alzheimer Affects your brain and makes you feel like you're not a part of the world. You are almost in a hallway that never ends but sometimes you get a window of what is really going on. In America over 5.8 million people are affected by Alzheimer's and every 5 years the number of people doubles. People as young as 30 are able to get Alzheimer but the most common age to get it is from 65 to older.  The most common people to get Alzheimers are African americans. In Alzheimer's disease, as neurons are injured and die throughout the brain, connections between networks of neurons may break down, and many brain regions begin to shrink. By the final stages of Alzheimer's, this process—called brain atrophy—is widespread, causing significant loss of brain volumeThe main reason for this greater risk is because women live longer than men and old age is the biggest risk factor for this disease

Why I choose this topic

I chose this topic because while I was at the park this kind old lady was talking to me and my mom about her granddaughter. She just called her a little girl. The old lady's daughter apologized to us and explained she had Alzheimer's and she didn't know who her granddaughter was because of it.
