Shared Journal

These student authors use the research-based Shared Journal (Taylor, Branscombe, Burcham & Kabdm, 2011) process to foster development and understanding of their own writing talents, and share social and cultural backgrounds (LE1).  Through participation in this process, children will learn to use interactive talk as a vehicle to understand and record personal events from the life experiences of other students.  Stories will be told orally and then reconstructed by student authors who will eventually move toward a higher ordered thinking process of reflecting and relating to the stories of others. They may retell the storyteller’s tale with additions from their own life stories. In this manner, students will learn to consider the perspectives of others while improving their skills as authors.

Enjoy,

Dr. Lester
