Essay 5: NEWSPAPER ARTICLE

You are a reporter for the local newspaper. Choose an important event from the text and write a news article about it for the newspaper.

 

STEP 1: Complete the Organizer

  • WHEN did it happen?

  • WHERE did it happen?

  • WHO was involved?

  • WHAT happened?

  • QUOTATION - Character or witness I could quote in my news story. Write what this person might say regarding this event.

 

Step 2: Write a news article using this checklist and the above organizer to help keep it all together.

  • Begin your article with the immediate details, telling when, where, who, and what in your opening sentences.

  • Continue the article by giving more specific details and background information about the event. Create an interesting quotation from a character or witness.

  • Give your article a headline (at the top).

  • Proofread your work and make changes to fix any problem spots.

 

Step 3:  Draw an image to go with the news article for the front page of the paper.
