Chapter 4

  1. Explain why Billy is determined to walk 20 miles, all the way to Tahlequah for dogs.

  2. Explain the purchases he makes in Tahlequah.  How does he know what to buy and for whom?

  3. Using text evidence, describe the towns people and how they behave.  Compare and Contrast their behavior with Billy's behavior.

  4. Explain why the people in the town stare at Billy.

  5. Explain why Billy stares in the mirror. What does he see for the very first time in his life. 

  6. Explain what is meant by the word “hillbilly.”  How do the kids mean this when they call Billy a Hillbilly? 

  7. Explain how the “slide” was really meant to be used.

  8. Record the similes and metaphors from this chapter and explain the meaning of each.
