11. Dischord and Dynne
5:22 a.m. in the Forest of Sight
"Seven times the sun rose and almost as quickly disappeared as the colors kept changing. In just a few minutes a whole week had gone by. (130)
"At last the exhausted Milo, afraid to call for help and on the verge of tears, dropped his hands to his sides. The orchestra stopped. The colors disappeared, and once again it was night. The time was 5:27 a.m." (131)
...to this day no one knows of the lost week but the few people who happened to be awake at 5:23 on that very strange morning. (131)

EXTENSION ACTIVITIES
The Orchestra Leader
You will need your headphones and art materials.
These buttons will lead you to an audible world of expressive sounds. As you listen, create a work of art inspired by the music. In this way, you are like CHROMA who created the sunset and sunrise as he directed the orchestra and the day's colors. You may choose one or several to inspire your work of art.
Bottles of Discord
You will need a bottle, paper, tape, art supplies and your imagination.
"Have you ever heard a blindfolded octopus unwrap a cellophane-covered bathtub?" (135) Well, now you can. Just open the jar and experience in vivid crackling, popping and snapping.
Now it is your turn to imagine the craziest of happenings, then create the most intriguing sounds possible. You will need to imagine the sound to some extent but you will describe it in great detail. Then you will design an appropriate bottle label and bottle filling to match your imagined sound.
Take an old bottle that inspires you. Think about the most unusual description of a sound you can muster. Create a label that describes your sound and decorate. Fill the bottle with curious things that might seem like your sound. Add your newly described sound to our shelf of Discord.
