  1. Describe how Jeffrey and Grayson’s holiday decorations compare to those that you are used to seeing during the Winter Holidays.

  2. Explain why Grayson and Maniac decorated so elaborately.

 

Chapter 31

  1. “The holiday would come bounding down the stairs and squealing ‘round the tinseled trees of Two Mills.”  Explain what type of figurative language is used here.

  2. Define meandering.

  3. Describe the “gifts” Jeffrey and Grayson left for their zoo neighbors.

  4. Describe Jeffrey and Grayson’s Christmas morning breakfast.  What was the most special item on the menu?

  5. Describe Jeffrey’s gift to Grayson. Explain its significance (importance).

  6. Explain why Jeffrey “gaped helplessly when he saw” the gift Grayson gave him.

  7. “Slowly, timidly, as thought entering a shrine, the boy’s fingers crept into it” (114) Explain what this means.

  8. Explain how the last line of this chapter makes you feel, personally.  Explain means to give details. Not just one-word answers.

 

Chapter 32

  1. Explain what Jeffrey did specifically, rather than running to the zoo Superintendent’s office. (115-116)

  2. Explain why Jeffrey smiled inwardly when he saw the little hole-digging tractor at the cemetery.

  3. Explain who the pallbearers were waiting for before they would “fill in the hole.” (117)

  4. Explain why Jeffrey ran away from the cemetery. Be specific.

  5. Write a reflection or your own thoughts and impressions about Part II of Maniac Magee. Paragraphs would be appropriate.
