The Allied Forces -Great Britain, U.S. and Soviet Union - decided they needed a plan to attack the beaches of Normandy, France.

June 6, 1944,

General Dwight D Eisenhower was Allied Commander.

Allied Forces Consisted

22 American divisions

12 British divisions

3 Canadian divisions

1 Polish division

1 French Division 

All TOTALLY over 160,000 troops

5,000 ships

11,000 airplanes

met The Atlantic Wall by surprise, built by Hitler

2,400 miles long,  complete  with barbed wire and bombs

This was the BIGGEST INVASION from the OCEAN in HISTORY

4,000 Allied Soldiers Killed

More than 6,000 wounded

It was the Beginning of the end of the war as Allied Forces took back land German had taken.

August 1944 - France was Freed
