After listening to a few of Laura Numeroff's circular stories, discuss the elements that appear in each.
-
Who are the characters?
-
Who is telling the story - point of view?
-
Is there a clear setting?
-
What would be considered the conflict?
-
Explain the resolution or ending of the story.
-
What part do the illustrations play in the context of the story?

Authors break up into groups of two or three. Using large chart paper and a marker, teams will compose a story, five minutes at a time. Once the five minute timer goes off, the chart paper story is passed to the next group. Every five minutes the story is passed. Each group writes a few lines of each story, paying attention to the narrative elements discussed above.

Once every team adds a few lines to EVERY story, the class will come together to read, revise, edit and explore the narrative structure.
