Design & Construct a Hooverville

Join Deza Malone in a Hooverville in Flint, Michigan 1935.

Step 1: BUILD A PERSON 

Build a person using our craft material.  (pipe cleaners, paper, markers glue)

Step 2: WRITE ABOUT THEIR LIFE

Using Google Classroom Document, write a biography of your character.  Consider how the person ended up living in a Shantytown during the Great Depression. Try to answer these questions about the personal details of the family in a well written essay, just like Deza wrote in Chapter 1.

                            - Name and Age of main character

                            - Family members

                            - Description of likes and dislikes of main character  

                            - Description of each family member. Include each                                      person's pet peeve, hobby, job or best and worst trait.   

 

Step 3: DESIGN A SHANTY HOUSE

Using available resources, build a shelter for the character created in Step 1.  Resources might include: One piece of cardboard, one piece of plastic, one piece of tine foil and one foot of duct tape.  Scissors are the only tool.  All shacks must protect the person from wind, rain and snow.  Resources are scarce. Be a creative problem solver.
